Who are we?

Gily's Children Foundation was established in 2018 by Mr. Gilbert Lasway, a dedicated educator and community leader from Tanzania. The organization began with one child under its care, driven by Gilbert’s deep compassion and vision to support vulnerable children living in poverty and difficult circumstances. Gily's Children Foundation is fully registered under Tanzanian NGO regulations with registration number ooNGO/R/1279.

While working closely with communities in Arusha and other regions of Tanzania, Gilbert witnessed firsthand the challenges that many children face — lack of access to early education, poor nutrition, unsafe living environments, and limited opportunities for growth. He was inspired to take action and create a place where children could feel safe, loved, and given a fair chance to thrive.

Gily's Children Foundation’s methods focus on understanding the full situation: identifying the challenges, their causes, the type of help needed, and who is best suited to provide it—both now and in the long term. Using our “toolkit,” we apply the most effective interventions for each specific case. Through careful monitoring and evaluation, we ensure that our support achieves the intended impact.

    Gily's Children Foundation is committed to making a real difference in the lives of children.

  2. Gily's helps vulnerable children and their families in the urban slums and rural areas around Arusha, Tanzania.

  3. We don’t believe in ‘one size fits all’ solutions: the challenges these children face deserve better and that is a tailor-made solution.

  4. We don’t just help, but we first carefully identify the real need and root causes.

  5. Following the needs identification, we identify which measures can be taken to address these needs and root causes. And who is best placed to provide these interventions? How can we organize the help in the most efficient way? This enables us to help more children with our scarce resources!

  6. Are we effective? We want to know this exactly, so we measure before, during and after the effect our efforts have.

  7. Wherever possible, we work closely together with the government of Tanzania. The most effective way in which we can help is to help people make use of what the government is providing.
