Gily's Children Foundation was established in 2018 by Mr. Gilbert Lasway, a dedicated educator and community leader from Tanzania. The organization began with one child under its care, driven by Gilbert’s deep compassion and vision to support vulnerable children living in poverty and difficult circumstances. Gily's Children Foundation is fully registered under Tanzanian NGO regulations with registration number ooNGO/R/1279.

While working closely with communities in Arusha and other regions of Tanzania, Gilbert witnessed firsthand the challenges that many children face — lack of access to early education, poor nutrition, unsafe living environments, and limited opportunities for growth. He was inspired to take action and create a place where children could feel safe, loved, and given a fair chance to thrive.

From these humble beginnings, Gilys Children Foundation has grown into a trusted organization that now supports over 100 children through its Gilys Daycare Centre, providing free early education, nutrition, and psychosocial support. The Foundation’s approach focuses on holistic child development — nurturing both the mind and heart — to break the cycle of poverty and create hope for a better future.

Under the leadership of Gilbert Lasway, Gilys Children Foundation continues to expand its impact through partnerships, community involvement, and a strong commitment to transparency and accountability.

What makes Gily's unique:

Through a self designed and developed system we measure how we identify the needs, how the root cause(s) for these needs can be addressed quickly, effectively and efficiently, and whether these interventions produce the intended changes. This is a unique way of working which has proven its worth already. Our objective is to continuously increase our impact in Tanzania. Currently we help approximately 300 children, by 2028 that number should be 1000!
